New Group Chief Executive
Further to the announcement on 31 May 2007 of John Clare's intention to retire,
DSG international plc is delighted to announce that John Browett (43) will be
taking over as Group Chief Executive. John is currently Operations Development
Director at Tesco. In this role, John is responsible for the design and
improvement of the Tesco operating model. This work covers aspects of the
stores, depots and back office, both in the UK and its international operations
in 12 countries.
Prior to this role, he was CEO of Tesco.com, which under his leadership grew
from a fledgling internet business into one of the world's most successful
internet grocers. He has been with Tesco since October 1998, originally joining
as Group Strategy Director. Before joining Tesco he was at Boston Consulting
Group, where he worked with a variety of clients specialising in consumer goods
and retail.
A graduate of Cambridge University, John has an MBA from the Wharton Business
School. He is married with three children.
Sir John Collins, Chairman, commented on the appointment: 'I am very pleased
that John has agreed to join DSG international as our new Group Chief Executive.
He brings a wealth of retailing experience to the Group from Tesco. His
involvement in creating Tesco's online operations and more recently in driving
improved customer experience and operational efficiencies will ensure that DSG
international can continue to capitalise on our strengths for the benefit of our
customers, employees and shareholders.'
John Browett said: 'I am delighted to be taking on the role of Group Chief
Executive of DSG international. I am looking forward to getting to know the
customers, staff and management team. We have some great opportunities ahead
that will build on the strong positions that have been established within the
UK, internationally and on the internet.'
